This thesis is situated in the discourse of risk that defines our technology-driven modern society, wherein one’s health is constructed as a personal and moral responsibility. A key contributor to the individualisation of risk in modern medicine is genomic technology. As genomics becomes progressively normalised in mainstream society, individuals of younger and younger ages are seeking to learn of their genetic risk of disease, including cancer.
