Abstract

New solar thermal technologies are required to achieve operating temperatures up to and above 1000°C for both power generation and high temperature thermochemical processes via process heat. This is much higher than commercial solar energy storage media and indirect processes, hence, offering a potential step-change in performance. The use of solid particles as the energy storage and conversion medium is being targeted as the key method to achieve these high temperatures. Interest in particle receiver is mainly driven by the low cost and wide availability of particles that are stable at high temperature while having high emissivity for efficient radiation absorption and high specific heat fo..
