Abstract

On the 6 August 2020 I performed the world premiere of Stuart Greenbaum’s Sonata for horn and piano - “Hiroshima.” It was streamed digitally from Melba Hall and available internationally. The Sonata was written for me, Carla Blackwood, and performed in collaboration with Stefan Cassomenos on piano. The Sonata for Horn and Piano is the 18th in a series of sonatas by Stuart Greenbaum, and was composed in October 2019 upon his return from a residency in Japan. The work traces the path through the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, with the central horn solo dedicated to the Children’s Peace Monument and the One Thousand Paper Cranes.
