Abstract

Ethics represents an expected standard between acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. This expected standard or ‘norm/s of conduct’ is often framed, understood, articulated and applied within a particular Western value-system and philosophy – reflecting a dominant mode of thinking and understanding the world and its relations. In this way, ethics becomes understood and applied as a singular, unmoving, universal lens. Not challenging these assumptions might indicate that a given practice is ‘doing good’ or is ‘good intentioned’, without thinking about the impact of our own purpose and privilege within a process.
