Abstract
In 2006, FPI (Front Pembela Islam, the Islamic Defenders Front) and other conservative Muslims campaigned ardently for the introduction of a national Pornography Law in Indonesia and were active in the lead-up to the passing of the Law. When the first issue of Indonesian Playboy – a toned-down version with no nudes – was published in April 2006, FPI ripped up copies of the magazine and burned it. FPI members also threw stones at the Playboy office in South Jakarta, breaking the windows (CBC 2006). In May 2006, FPI was also prominent when tens of thousands rallied across the country in favour of the pornography bill (AFP 2006).
