Abstract

The continuing inflection within contemporary automobilities scholarship of early Marxian automobilities scholarship renders cars as a technology which produces a human subject concerned with efficiency and futurity. This autoethnographic study of urban driving and crashing during COVID-19 lockdown, and part contemporary and historical reflection on pandemic events illuminates alternative temporal experiences of automobility: in particular senses of driving into the past, and of the fear-inducing inability to retroactively rationalise danger.
