Abstract

Kidney transplantation is a life changing event for a person living with end stage kidney disease and the allocation of deceased donor kidneys can have profound impacts on who has access to this treatment, the benefit that is derived from the gift of donation and the long term outcomes for the individual receiving the organ. The system that determines the allocation of deceased donor kidneys comprises a number of interconnected processes and must address a range of competing priorities.
