Urban social movements and the degrowth transition: Towards a grassroots theory of change

Abstract

Since the 1970s, the ‘limits to growth’ position has received a great deal of attention, mostly from economic and ecological perspectives (Meadows et al. 1972; Bardi 2011; Turner 2014). In more recent years, the degrowth movement has been contributing an important range of new political and sociological analyses – offering deeper insight into post-growth narratives of progress and evaluating alternative policies and structures.
