In an aging world population, improvement in oral health awareness and behaviours has resulted in the progressively increasing retention of natural teeth in the geriatric population in developed countries. As a result, the number of root surfaces at risk of developing caries is increasing due to age-associated gingival recession and subsequent exposure of caries-prone cervical root dentine to the oral environment.
