Abstract

This chapter brings up the book’s focus on BRI challenges noting that obstacles to global governance and opportunities for global development coexist. In implementation, BRI interacts with existing multilateral systems, regionalism, nationalism, and conflicts – to which, it is observed, ‘institution building’ is crucial to facilitate south-south and south-north trades (Cheng, 2018; Mayer, 2018). The chapter discussed critical elements and insights to the broader question of BRI’s profound historic, geographic, and cultural roles. The following chapters delves into individual country’s experiences, beginning with China, BRI instigator.
