HBV Therapy and the Problem of Drug Resistance

Abstract

The current goal of management for patients with chronic hepatitis B is to achieve sustained virological suppression. This has been shown to reduce the risk of liver disease progression, including cirrhosis, hepatic failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Nucleos(t)ide analogue monotherapy is commonly used as first-line therapy, and most patients will require long-term antiviral therapy. As for all direct-acting antiviral agents, the emergence of drug resistance is an important clinical concern.
