Formal training for employees of small business

Abstract

This article analyses data collected from employers as part of the 1993 Training Expenditure and 1994 Training Practices Surveys conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) with a view to: quantifying the extent of formal training in small firms as compared with larger business; identifying factors that influence formal training provision and how the significance of these factors varies with firm size; and identifying obstacles to the provision of formal training in small business.
