Photonics as an enabling technology for future microwave systems

Abstract
We present an overview of microwave systems where photonics is being actively investigated as an enabling technology. These applications include using optical fiber links for antenna remoting in both fiber-radio and optical phased array systems, and the use of photonics to enable new microwave functions such as analog-to-digital conversion and microwave filter synthesis.
