Measuring the Intermediate Effects of Offense‐Focused Intervention on Offenders

Abstract

This chapter provides a brief overview of treatment outcomes for sexual and non-sexual violent offenders. In a systematic review of violent offender treatment conducted for the Ministry of Justice (UK), D. Jolliffe and D. P. Farrington were able to identify only 11 outcome studies that met the required methodological criteria. They cautiously concluded that "interventions with violent offenders were effective both at reducing general and violent re-offending, with a difference in percentage of participants reconvicted of about eight to eleven per cent for general re-offending measures and seven to eight per cent for violent re-offending measures".
