Abstract

Abstract The validation of writing assessments is conducted through research investigating how appropriate an assessment is for its intended uses. Validation research occurs in a variety of contexts in which writing assessments are used. The most widely published validation activities often center around high‐stakes writing assessments such as the Internet‐based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
