Abstract

This thesis explores consumers' behaviour in the residential electricity industry. It contains three essays that (i) provide empirical evidence that consumers exhibit inattention and behaviour that is consistent with non-standard preferences and (ii) examine whether behavioural interventions are effective to affect consumers' behaviours. In essay one, I investigate whether consumers are attentive to their energy usage in the absence of real-time information feedback and whether attention varies over the billing cycle.
