Obsession and Unreasonable Love: Creativity and Devotion in Comics Scholarship

Abstract

This chapter investigates the role of love in the creation of both comics and scholarship, asserting at once the place of scholarship within a wider comics ecology, and the potential (or indeed demand) of comics scholarship to reposition the dynamics and expectations of scholarship itself-drawing links between the body, finding community, the work involved in making and reading, the challenges of locating the appropriate language for telling comics stories, and an argument for embracing the personal, the artistic, the embodied, and the incomplete when reading comics and culture.
