Abstract
Professor Elliott Gyger composed Elude for solo bassoon as part of the ANAM Set Festival, which incorporated commissions by 67 Australian composers. The research innovation involved developing new fingerings and techniques for playing at a barely audible level in the high register of the bassoon. Furthermore, the range of the instrument was expanded though a special blowing technique on the end of the mouthpiece to include notes below the standard low B flat.
