Child of Now

Abstract

Flow is a 25-minute mixed-reality performance installation for one or two people at a time. It is set in the ‘everywhen’ (a place where all time is present) on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra) river. Visitors are guided through a series of five rooms and mediated encounters in a journey from 10,000 years in the past to the near future. The experience situates the visitor’s own life within a ‘long now’ continuum of human care, survival, and innovation on the Birrarung to provide context for the climate emergency and other existential challenges people born today will face in the next century.
