Symphony No.5 – Brought to Light

Abstract

This work was commissioned by Cantori New York. It is a choral symphony in 6 movements of 68 minutes duration, scored for SATB chorus, percussion and strings. It sets an original new text by Ross Baglin. The architecture for this 6 movement work is highly geometric in proportion. On paper the duration of movements in minutes gradually gets shorter (12’ | 10’ | 8’ | 6’ | 4’) and then radically longer for the final movement (20’). In performance (including bespoke staging requirements for changing soloists) the work is then 68 minutes in performance.
