TECHNOLOGY-FACILITATED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: Some queer considerations

Abstract

Recent scholarship on domestic and family violence (DFV) is increasingly drawing attention to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people’s experiences of such violence and also to the role played by various technologies in the perpetration of DFV. Both bodies of work have been instrumental in providing new theoretical, conceptual, and typological insights into DFV. Yet, to date, these two bodies of work have largely evaded one another. As the role of technologies in DFV for LGBTQ+ people and the theoretical frameworks needed to understand these role(s) are likely to be distinct, it is important that such distinctions and their implications are explored.
