Women and Legal Change in Asia Special Issue: Introduction

Abstract

In recent years, women’s movements across Asia have continued to advocate for women’s rights in response to regressions away from progressive legal change. This Special Issue seeks to explore the work of women’s movements and examine trends in legal change throughout the region, focusing on changes within the last five years, that is, from 2017 to 2022. The authors in this Special Issue write about a wide variety of issues on which women are seeking legal change within the region. These issues, all of which relate to an acknowledgement of, and respect for, women’s rights, include domestic violence, abortion, sexual violence and marriage equality and prioritise the importance of women’s self-..
