Abstract

Fun Home is a Tony Award winning music theatre adaption of the graphic novel memoir by cartoonist and author Alison Bechdel. It depicts the author at three stages in her life with interweaving memories of growing up and discovering her own identity and sexuality. Alison’s story is counter pointed by memories of her own father who’s own repressed sexual identity leads to tragedy. This project was a new production of the work delivered by an entirely Australian creative team. It was also the Melbourne premiere of this important work that was written and composed by an entirely female team– making it a significant contribution to the music theatre cannon.
