Abstract

Abstract The biological and molecular mechanisms that underpin the malignant transformation of normal melanocytes to melanomas are largely unknown. In part, this is due to the limited understanding of normal human melanocyte homeostasis and how melanocytes respond to oncogenic insults such as ultraviolet radiation (UVR). This is particularly true for interfollicular epidermal melanocytes, which have the highest levels of UVR exposure and from whence most melanomas are thought to arise. These knowledge gaps impede the development of strategies for active, targeted prevention of melanoma formation. We thus evaluated epidermal melanocytes transcriptionally, phenoty..
