The socio-cultural experience of Chinese international students in Australian schools: challenges and opportunities

Abstract

Objective: The needs and experiences of Chinese international students in the context of secondary education have been largely under-researched. Tertiary education research has shown international student populations are particularly susceptible to acculturative stressors, loneliness, and isolation in host cultures therefore it is important to consider these factors amongst secondary students studying abroad who are potentially even more vulnerable. Method: This qualitative research explored the experiences and challenges faced by Chinese secondary students in Australia and their help-seeking behaviour.
