Mycorrhizae

Abstract

This chapter questions the status of Western theatre as a place of human dramas and virtuosity. In contrast, we explore mycorrhizal fungi and underground communities that are intimately engaged in cycles of decay and regeneration, interminglings of atmosphere and matter. Drawing in works by Agnes Denes, Forced Entertainment and Björk, we consider how bacteria and mycorrhizae build interspecies, multiscalar worlds beneath the surface of things to support composting cycles.
