Mermaid

Abstract

This chapter explores the professional mermaid industry and the mermaid as an image of climate activism and multispecies connection in an extended reading of the work of Hanna Cormick. We argue that the mermaid epitomises the urgency of performing climates and the messy relations between species, water, atmospheres, human and more-than-human bodies in a time of environmental emergency.
