The Emerging Role of AI in Life Storytelling for Older Adults: A Systematic Review of Commercial Apps

Abstract

Storytelling can help maintain older adults' sense of identity and social connection. HCI researchers have designed and evaluated numerous prototype-based interventions to facilitate digital storytelling for older adults. However, little is known about the applications people encounter outside research settings. This paper presents a systematic review of commercially available storytelling apps. Through searches of the Google Play and Apple App Store, we identified 16 apps and analysed their functions, storytelling purposes, and technological implementations.
