Abstract
This chapter explores the use of music-based interventions in congregate settings – both residential and non-residential – for people living with dementia. It describes the various types of music-based interventions and the characteristics of the settings in which they are applied, such as care homes, hospitals, day care centres, and community centres. The chapter elaborates on the features and guiding principles of key approaches, specifically direct music therapy, indirect music therapy, community musician-led programmes, and music and reminiscence.
