The Magpie’s Nest: A Model of Health Care for All

Abstract

People experiencing homelessness and social disadvantage face significant barriers to coordinated healthcare and have high rates of comorbid mental health and substance use conditions. The Salvation Army café, The Magpie Nest, supports this population in Melbourne’s central business district. In response to complex health concerns among patrons, cohealth and The Salvation Army established a co-located, low-barrier medical clinic within the café.
