Abstract
Baseband carrier-sense circuits (BCSC) for optical packet networks are characterized. The range of received optical power (ROP) for reliable operation at the circuit is bounded at the lower end where transmission collisions occur and at higher end where transmission efficiency is compromised. The effect of the BCSC bandwidth on the upper bound and the lower sensitivity bound is investigated. An optimum low pass filter (LPF) bandwidth is found to exist that maximizes the operating range of ROP.
