Abstract

The underlying neurobiology of schizophrenia remains to be elucidated. However, there is now a growing body of information from the study of tissue obtained postmortem that suggests changes in the serotonergic systems of the brain are involved in the pathology of this illness. The evidence implicating differential changes in the serotonergic systems of the frontal cortex and hippocampus of subjects with schizophrenia is reviewed.
