Abstract

There is much concern and controversy surrounding children's literacy. Should we teach children earlier than we do? Should we foster oral language first? Why do so many children fail in our school system? The review here reports these issues and many more that have captured the attention of early educators through the pages of the Australian Pre-School Quarterly (APQ) and the Australian Journal of Early Childhood (AJEC) across 40 years.
