Parents’ Perceptions of Kindergarten Programs in Victoria

Abstract

There has been a growing recognition in the early childhood profession of the importance of building partnerships with parents. Yet very little research exists to guide professionals in their deliberations. This study addresses the issue through the model of a sample-based questionnaire which sought to gain information on: a) Victorian parents expectations of kindergarten programs for their children and for themselves, and b) the extent to which these expectations were fulfilled. The outcomes of the research underscore key issues concerning how best to build meaningful relationships within the diverse range of communities accessing early childhood settings across Victoria.
