Prediction and prevention of transition to psychosis in young people at incipient risk for schizophrenia

Abstract

The treatment of psychotic disorders, particularly schizophrenia, had been viewed with pessimism until a recent shift in focus from established or chronic illness to earlier phases of illness around the onset highlighted opportunities for enhanced recovery. Associated with this change in focus of research and clinical efforts has been the recognition that the biological and social changes underpinning the development of psychotic disorders may already be active in the prepsychotic or prodromal phase.
