Abstract

The induction of cell death by cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTL) or natural killer (NK) cells is one of the main ways by which higher organisms protect themselves from rogue cells, including those infected by a virus, or posing a risk of cancer. Considering the rapidity of viral replication and spread to uninfected cells, CTL and NK are extremely efficient killers.
