Drugs and the placenta - A workshop report

Abstract

In summary, this Workshop presented a review of established and new therapeutic agents used in the treatment of medical disorders and clinical problems in pregnancy. A final general discussion provided a forum to define common issues relating to the use of immunosuppressive and anti-infective agents during pregnancy. It was emphasized that dosing recommendations would benefit from better information regarding the role the placenta plays in the metabolism and distribution of pharmacologic agents within the maternal and foetal compartments.
