Abstract

Harper 1 INTRODUCTION One of the paradoxes of multinational banking is that the names of so many of the main players have such strong national or regional connections. BankAmerica, Banque Nationale de Paris, Deutsche Bank, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, National Australia Bank,1 Royal Bank of Canada and Union Bank of Switzerland are but a few instances of this paradox. This section addresses the paradox by outlining the history and evolution of multinational banking from its parochial roots, and then Section 2 discusses various theories of multinational banking.
