All-optical gain-controlled bidirectional optical add-drop multiplexer

Abstract

A new full all-optical gain-controlled BOADM for use in single-fiber bidirectional networks is presented. The BOADM uses ASE noise path through OCs to achieve constant gain and low NFs over a large range of input. Furthermore, the device has low crosstalk, is flexible, and removes Rayleigh backscattering and out-of-band ASE noise.
