CSMA/CD-based ethernet over passive optical network for delivery of voice-over-IP traffic

Abstract

The applicability of a CSMA/CD-based EPON to transport real-time VoIP traffic to home and office users was investigated. Results show that a realistic EPON with 32 ONU's clustered within 100 m to 1 km of the SC can deliver VoIP packets with low delay and manageable jitter.
