Abstract

Differentiated services ina carrier sense multiple access/collision detection (CSMA/CD) based ethernet over passive optical network (PON) was evaluated. It was shown that CSMA/CD was a random access protocol with deterministic delays, low delays and manageable jitter. It was observed that a maximum throghput of 82% was achieved for worse case of five voice channels. The results show that a CSMA/CD based EPON clustered with star coupler can deliver there integrated circuits with high throughput.
