{[WS4Cu4(4,4′-bpy)4][WS 4Cu4I4(4,4′-bpy)2]}∞ - An unusual 3D porous coordination polymer formed from the preformed cluster [Et4N]4[WS4Cu4I6]

Abstract

An unusual supramolecular compound {[WS4Cu4(4, 4′-bpy)4][WS4Cu4I4(4,4′- bpy)2]}∞ (see picture) was obtained from the self-assembly of a preformed mixed-metal sulfide cluster, [NEt4]4[WS 4Cu4I6]. The product consists of four interpenetrating diamond-type nets (two cationic and two anionic) and has large open channels that are lined with "receptor sites" for guest iodine molecules. 4,4′-bpy = 4,4′-bipyridyl.
