Abstract

The Xylem Xapper is a prototype device capable of pulverizing xylem samples from stems of forest trees to a fine powder suitable for molecular biological investigations. Freezing of stem disks and pulverizing of xylem chips take place under liquid nitrogen, ensuring maximum retention and preservation of biologically active material. A modified technique enables extraction of sufficient quantities of high-quality RNA for preparation of cDNA libraries. © 2004 International Society for Plant Molecular Biology.
