Does optical burst switching have a role in the core network?

Abstract
We show that Optical Burst Switching (OBS) does not appear to be a viable option for routing in the core network. In order to achieve an acceptably low blocking probability, OBS networks will require an uneconomically large increase in network transmission capacity. © 2005 Optical Society of America.
