Evaluating the dynamic characteristics of floor systems using dynamic testing

Abstract
The University of Melbourne has conducted several studies of the dynamic properties and response characteristics of floor systems. These have included testing of model T-beam sections of floor systems under laboratory conditions and in-situ testing of full-scale floors in buildings and stadia. Results from the testing experience have highlighted the importance of the role of damping and modal mass in controlling response levels to human-induced floor vibration and also demonstrated how a better understanding of the structural characteristics of such systems tested can be gained. © Institute of Materials Engineering Australasia Ltd 2005.
