Abstract

This paper compares two daily rainfall data generation models, namely, the Transition Probability Matrix (TPM) model with Boughton’s adjustment and a simplified Daily and Monthly Mixed (DMMs) model, using data from 8 small catchments from different parts of Australia. Rainfall data were first generated by the two data generation models. In addition to comparing the statistical characteristics of daily, monthly and annual rainfall, the rainfall data were transformed to streamflow using a simple rainfall-runoff model, SIMHYD, and the statistical characteristics of the resulting streamflows were compared. The results showed that there is very little difference in the modelled streamflows and ei..
