Abstract

This chapter discusses a number of specific conditions and syndromes in which epilepsy is a prominent part of the clinical condition. The chapter includes stroke and related vascular conditions, two distinct congenital malformations (Sturge-Weber syndrome and hypothalamic hamartomas), and infectious diseases associated with epilepsy. The chapter describes magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a valuable technique in the diagnosis of specific disorders associated with epilepsy. It is important to recognize some of the typical imaging findings in these patients because proper diagnosis can result in adequate treatment.
