Abstract

The whole concept of abnormal Pap smears and cervical cancer being due to an STI poses enormous challenges to the healthcare provider. The psychological and psychosocial sequelae of misinformation are potentially damaging both to the woman and her partner. There is a clear responsibility for the information around this to be simple, relevant, reassuring and comprehensible. Written information is invaluable. © 2006 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
