Degradable polyelectrolyte capsules filled with oligonucleotide sequences

Abstract

To cap it all: A polycation-free encapsulation method is used to obtain high concentrations of uncomplexed, short oligonucleotide chains confined within monodisperse, degradable microcapsules. Oligonucleotide loadings of > 104 chains per capsule are obtained, and more than 90% of the capsules are filled with DNA. These capsules also undergo degradation under reducing conditions (such as those that occur in cells), releasing the encapsulated DNA. (Figure Presented). © 2006 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
