Dynamic testing of the Sale Swing Bridge - Before and after deck replacement works

Abstract

The historic Sale Swing Bridge has recently been dynamically tested in order to performstructural system identification studies of its in-situ condition. This testing enabled a finite element model of the bridge to be calibrated from the experimentally determined dynamic modes identified in its part and fully open orientation. An opportunity subsequently arose to perform re-testing of the bridge after complete refurbishment of its timber deck. Results obtained correlatedwell with those from the earlier test series and in addition allowed two additional test condition investigations corresponding to the closed 0 and 180 degree orientations. © 2007 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
